Terms of Service
These terms apply to Chirpo, the AI tutor for Google Classroom, and to this website, both provided by InterThread Software (“InterThread”, “we”, “us”). By installing or using Chirpo, you agree to these terms. If you use Chirpo on behalf of a school or school board, you agree to them for that organization.
A school or board that signs a separate written agreement with us is covered by that agreement where it differs from these terms.
1. Who can use Chirpo
Chirpo is for use in schools through Google Workspace for Education accounts, under a teacher's direction. Schools are responsible for deciding whether Chirpo is appropriate for their students, approving its installation, and obtaining any parental or guardian consent required by law or by school policy.
Students may use Chirpo only through activities their teacher assigns.
2. Pilot and early access
Chirpo is in early development. During pilots and early access, it is provided free of charge, features may change or be removed, and the service may sometimes be unavailable. We will give schools reasonable notice before introducing fees, and fees will apply only under a plan the school agrees to.
3. Teachers' responsibilities
- Create activities and attach materials that are appropriate for your students and that you have the right to use.
- Don't put students' personal information, such as names or contact details, into activity titles, topics or materials.
- Review student work, including safety flags, as part of your normal professional practice.
- Treat Chirpo's ratings as evidence to consider, not as final grades. You are responsible for the grades and feedback you give.
4. Acceptable use
Don't use Chirpo to:
- harass, threaten or harm anyone, or create content that is unlawful or inappropriate for students;
- try to get around Chirpo's safety rules, or to access other people's activities or data;
- disrupt, overload, reverse-engineer or probe the security of the service, except through responsible disclosure to us;
- collect personal information about students for any purpose other than teaching.
We may suspend access that breaks these rules or puts students at risk.
5. Content and ownership
Teachers and schools keep ownership of the activities and materials they create. Students and schools keep ownership of student work. You give us permission to store, process and display this content only as needed to provide Chirpo to you, as described in our privacy policy.
InterThread owns Chirpo, including its software, design, name and mascot. These terms don't transfer any of those rights to you.
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve Chirpo without any obligation to you.
6. Privacy and student data
Our privacy policy explains what we collect and how we use it. We process student information on behalf of schools, only to provide Chirpo. We don't sell it, use it for advertising, or use it to train AI models.
7. AI limitations
Chirpo uses AI models that can make mistakes. Its replies may sometimes be incomplete, inaccurate or unsuitable, and its ratings may not match a teacher's judgment. Chirpo supports teachers but doesn't replace them. It is not a substitute for professional advice, counselling, special-education services or emergency help. See our safety page for how Chirpo handles concerns.
8. Google services
Chirpo works with Google Classroom and Google sign-in. Your use of those services is governed by Google's own terms. We aren't responsible for Google's services, and changes Google makes may affect how Chirpo works.
9. Ending use
You can stop using Chirpo at any time by removing it from your Classroom or your school's Google Workspace, and you can ask us to delete your data. We may end or suspend the service, with reasonable notice where possible. If we stop offering Chirpo, we will give schools time to export or review their data before deleting it.
10. Disclaimers and liability
To the extent the law allows, Chirpo is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of fitness for a particular purpose.
To the extent the law allows, InterThread is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits, arising from the use of Chirpo. Our total liability for any claim relating to Chirpo is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for Chirpo in the 12 months before the claim and CAD 100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law that applies.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top and, for significant changes, notify schools using Chirpo before the changes take effect. Continuing to use Chirpo after that means you accept the updated terms.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
